Protection coordination study

The protection coordination study complements the scope of the short circuit study. Learn more about this study and get a quote!

In order to perform the Arc flash study, it is necessary to have previously performed the short circuit study. In turn, for the coordination of protections it is necessary to know the short circuit level.

Short circuit study

We perform three-phase fault simulations, line to ground fault, line to line fault and line to line to ground fault. This allows us to know the short circuit currents at each point of the system, for half-cycle and 5-cycle asymmetrical currents, as well as initial and steady-state symmetrical currents.

Protection coordination study

When starting an installation it is necessary to perform a short-circuit evaluation to know the capacities of the equipment to be installed. In addition to determine the fuses and thermomagnetic switches required for proper operation.

What does this study do?

The protection coordination study complements the scope of the short-circuit study, in addition to a coordination of the short-circuit and overcurrent protections of all buses, together with their time-current curves and circuit breaker settings.

In the report we include the input data used, the assumptions and criteria used, as well as the coordination graphs and damage curves of the various elements.

It is performed according to the criteria of local application standards (according to IEEE Std. 242-2001 (Recommended Practice for Protection and Coordination of Industrial and Commercial Power Systems) or according to the client's criteria.

Benefits

  • Mitigates, isolates and minimizes the effects of possible short circuits in your plant.
  • Determine the ideal type of overcurrent protection for your electrical network.
  • Calculate the necessary adjustments to your protection devices, duration times and fault paths.
  • Protect your personnel and equipment by identifying arc flash hazards.
  • Maximum protection and continuity of service.
  • Complies with NOM-001-SEDE-2012 standards.
  • This analysis goes hand in hand with the electric arc study.
  • We perform the evaluation according to the criteria of the Grid Code. Avoid CENACE fines by being in compliance.
  • If you need energy saving equipment to meet the requirements of the regulations we provide them.
  • We provide recommendations and best practices to maintain optimal operation.
  • By performing these studies we gather valuable information about your operation to support you quickly in case of any unforeseen future events.
